Finish an update at a good time

Windows Update says Restart required. Your notes are unsaved, your laptop battery is low, and you have finished today’s call. Arrange these actions to finish the update safely.

Use the arrows to order the steps.

  1. After signing in, open Windows Update and check the status.
  2. Let Windows finish and return to the sign-in screen; keep power connected.
  3. In Settings > Windows Update, choose Restart now.
  4. Save the notes, close the app, and connect the laptop to its charger.
Lesson notes

Use a quiet moment for maintenance, and start troubleshooting with a small, reversible step.

  1. Open Settings > Windows Update to check for updates. If a restart is required, save your work and choose a suitable time; keep a laptop connected to power.
  2. Let an update finish. Do not force the PC off because the progress seems slow.
  3. For a problem that remains, open Get Help and search the symptom, such as audio troubleshooter or network connection. Follow the relevant diagnostics and note any exact error.

Save work before restarting to troubleshoot. Reset this PC and Network reset have broader effects; they are not the first response to one frozen app or failed website.
