Sequence

Keep a receipt where you can find it

receipt.pdf is in Downloads. The existing folder Documents > Household is empty. Put a copy there named Grocery-receipt.pdf and leave the original in Downloads.

Use the arrows to order the steps.

  1. Open Grocery-receipt.pdf and confirm the receipt is readable.
  2. Rename the copy Grocery-receipt.pdf.
  3. Select Paste (Ctrl+V).
  4. Open Documents > Household.
  5. Select Copy (Ctrl+C).
  6. Open Downloads and select receipt.pdf.
Lesson notes

A folder and a clear filename make the next task easier.

  1. Open File Explorer with Windows+E. Downloads is a usual starting place for files saved by your browser; the browser may use a different folder.
  2. Copy (Ctrl+C) keeps the original. Cut (Ctrl+X), followed by Paste (Ctrl+V) in another folder, moves it.
  3. Use New > Folder when needed. Rename the file clearly and keep its existing ending, such as .pdf. View > Show > File name extensions makes endings visible.

Open the destination copy before removing an original. Quick access links and shortcuts help you find a file; they are not independent copies.
